TRIPHALA - A PERFECT RASAYANA DRUG

 

From the name itself Triphala is a combination of three drugs in equal quantities, Harithaki, Bhibhithaki & Amalaki - effective therapeutic drug that balances Tridoshas- Vata, Pitta & Kapha.

As I said TRIPHALA act as an immunomodulator, because it helps to balance body equilibrium. It helps to defence body against diseases. Because of this immunomodulatory action, almost all the Ayurvedic formulations contains TRIPHALA. Hence TRIPHALA act as a RASAYANA DRUG.

Research studies found that TRIPHALA is potentially effective for appetite stimulation, reduction of hyperacidity, antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, immunomodulating, antibacterial, antimutagenic, adaptogenic, hypoglycemic, antineoplastic, chemoprotective, and radioprotective effects, and prevention of dental caries. According to Charak, taking the Triphala Rasayana (Triphala with honey and ghee) daily has the potential to make a person live for one hundred years devoid of old age and diseases.

As both Ayurveda and Western medicine agree that health and disease begin in the gut, TRIPHALA represents an essential foundational formula as it promotes efficient digestion, absorption, elimination, and rejuvenation. TRIPHALA will act as mild laxative at normal doses, bowel tonic at low dose, purgative at high doses, carminative, expectorant, antispasmodic, and bronchodilator.

 

HOW TRIPHALA ACT AS IMMUNOMODULATOR

The active ingredient of HAREETHAKI – TERMINALIA CHEBULA is chebulagic acid, gallic acid and ellagic acid, which is highly potent antioxidant, is responsible for its immunomodulatory action.

The active ingredient of BHIBHITAKI – TERMINALIA BELLERICA also contains gallic acid, & same as terminalia chebula, which is high potent anti-oxidant, act as immunomodulator.

The active ingredient of AMALAKI – EMBILICA OFFICINALIS contains gallic acid & its derivatives, its posses’ high amount of tanins, flavonoids & alkaloids, rich source of VIT.C
